Learn basic skills on guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. Students also explore the grassroots American contexts from which these instruments emerged.

Rolling Stones, Beatles, Eagles, CSN, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix — These are the players who really put the guitar on the map. Play what they played.  For intermediate players.

Write What You Hear

Songwriting and Compostion for Everyone. 
Everyone has an opinion about how to do it.  This class looks at demystifying the creation of new music, so that everyone can do it.

Survey of American Folk Music

Carl Sandburg described his American Songbag this way…”it comes from the hearts and voices of thousands of men and women. They made new songs, they changed old songs, and they carried songs from place to place."  Amerca's history is told and punctuated by its music from the revolutionary war to the present.  Sing it, play it, bring it to your school.
